The library is open daily and is is well-used both during lesson time for research and Accelerated Reader lessons, and in free time for homework, research, reading and library activities.
Last year we had group of students who completed the Library Assistant programme and now we have a dedicated team of Student Librarians who help maintain and run the library. Every September we will look to recruit new student librarians onto the team.
All Year 7, 8 and 9 students are enrolled on the Accelerated Reader Programme, which enables students to test their understanding of books they have read, recommends the next level and enables teachers to monitor progress. Students are well rewarded for reading lots in their own time! This enhances a wider vocabulary understanding and enjoyment of books both fiction and non-fiction, and supports good progress across all curriculum subjects.

We run a variety of clubs and activities within the library. The Book Club has just finished reading ‘Smart’ by Kim Slater, which was a very enjoyable read and was rated 5 stars by Book Club members. They are already looking forward to choosing their next read!Library craft club is aspopular as ever, and this term, students have been learning to sew. They have made stuffed toy animals and we are looking forward to getting creative with some Christmas makes.
Everyone is welcome to come along to the Book club on Wednesdays and Craft club on Thursdays at lunch times – watch this space for more clubs and activities in the library, including the opening of a board game club!
