The well-being of all pupils is our primary concern throughout Iceni Academy. We measure progress not only by exam results but also by the journey of children into confident, happy and caring young people.

We believe that the quality of pastoral care is as valuable as the quality of teaching in the classroom

Social and emotional development programmes are followed and when it is appropriate visiting speakers offer specialist information raising awareness in relation to Personal, Social and Health Education aspects. As well as Relationship and sex Education.

A pastoral team, including the Intervention team, Form Tutors, Student Support Officer (SSO), Heads of Year, oversees pupils as they progress through each year group, offering support, mentoring and guidance. The team regularly monitor attendance, support pupils returning after absence and take the necessary actions to prevent prolonged absence.

If, during a prolonged absence, it is deemed appropriate, our intervention team will collate work for the child to complete at home.

The first point of contact, for students and their families, is always their form Tutor or their Head of Year.

In cases where there are serious causes for concern then the point of contact should be one of the Intervention team or Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Miss K Bartrum – DSL/Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mr H Cooper – DDSL/Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mr R Rushton ADSL/Head of Academy

Sheena Walker ADSL/Raising Achievement Manager

Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) are responsible for ensuring the well-being of all pupils in liaison with all Academy staff. The DSL team can be contacted via 01366 728333 or safeguarding@attrust.org.uk

Relevant staff are trained to support medical needs and first aid is available to the students throughout the school day. Many of our staff have been trained as Mental Health First Aiders and we regularly signpost the children and their families or carers to external support.
